#AKUDAMA DRIVE NETFLIX SERIES#
The series is very dynamic and poses good unknowns, you criticize society as the system corrupts people with power and they just want to take care of their own position. You can observe how the normal person begins to change and ask if they are really the bad guys.

We see what happens with the group of main characters and how they develop with their mission. Short anime, very entertaining with very epic fights from the beginning. The only big issue holding this show back is it's weird ending and questionable choices to kill of crowd favorite characters way to early, but other than that this thing is pretty awesome and I would 100% recommend it just don't take it to seriously. Overall 8/10: A fun show with fun characters and an exiting world for them to do exiting things in make this a delightful show to binge in a day. If you look at this show with a microscope or you tend to be fairly critical person, your probably going to notice a lot more cracks in this anime behind the layer of bright neon paint then I ever will pick out. Part of this show is satire of itself in a way that doesn't take itself to seriously, and there is a lot of exceedingly dumb shit that WILL happen during the action bits that the show more or less expects you to just roll with all in the name of fun. They kill off a pretty sizeable chunk of the cast, which I wasn't in love with but it did have it's moments really I'm just sad cause they killed off my favorite characters the earliest and let my least favorite ones outlast everyone else till the end.Įnjoyment 9/10: It's fun, but it's not for everyone. Even the supporting cast and antagonists use only codenames, I'm pretty sure not a single person in this show uses their actual name once) and I'm 99% sure this show is self aware of that which just makes it more funny, but it can get a little bit annoying sometimes. Yes those are the actual names of the Akudama.

This kind of works for the show, cause all the characters are more or less copy pastes of archetypes (Hacker, Brawler, Hoodlum, Courier, Cutthroat, Doctor, and the MC who's real name we never learn, Swindler. They never name any of the characters, instead they go by codenames related to the crimes they committed in order to become Akudama. Punk Rock is hit or miss with me, especially in anime, I just don't think they really blend together all that well, but this show makes it work and when it works it's an absolute headbanger.Ĭharacter 8/10: Akudama Drive tries a lot of and unique concepts and ideas with their characters, with varying qualities in it's unorthodox execution. Sound 8/10: It's not everyone's cup of tea, and I don't think that Akudama Drive really went the safe route with their choice of soundtrack, but I personally think it's really cool. It's everything you'd expect form your traditional cyberpunk anime except cranked up to ten in the florescent neon department and bleeding together with an urban graffiti aesthetic to create something I can't quite explain in any way other than eye candy. The ending feels misguided and rushed, and it was without a doubt the weakest link in an otherwise extremely strong show with good pacing and a fluid narrative.Īrt 9/10: I always struggle to describe and praise good visual art when I see it without sounding like I'm repeating myself, but this show is different. The Blu-ray is supposed to have some bonus content at the end of the last episode so maybe that will clear things up but I have no clue to be honest. I, as well as other people I talked to that watched this show, are not really sure if Akudama Drive even leaves a door open for a sequel or not. It's a strong plot that allows for a ton of fights and an excuse to show off impressive visuals, but in the third act everything seems to fall apart and the ending feels kind of jarring and disjointed. unheistable train an ordinary girl caught in the middle. Story 7/10: Overall pretty well done, it centers around a group of notorious Akudama, which is just their fancy word for a criminal, and focuses on their Oceans Eleven style heist of a seemingly The absurd and impulsive nature of this show is what gives it most of it's charm, and it grabs you by the balls with it's over the top fight sequences and holds on tight the entire duration of the show. I'm a massive sucker for very high intensity action and cool looking cyberpunk, and this show definitely delivers both well above the bar of what I'm used to.
